Eliminate Decision Fatigue & set yourself up for success

I don’t know about you, but it seems like there’s a lot we have to be on top of these days. Sorting out all of the do’s & don’ts, and deciding how to be healthy in today’s world can be exhausting.

This phenomenon is so common it even has a name: decision fatigue. Basically, the more decisions we have to make, the more worn out we get and the poorer our choices become.

I get really tired of deciding. In fact, it wears me out. Can anyone else relate? From mundane, frivolous choices about what to eat ...What do you think, should we cook or pick up Thai food for dinner tonight?

...to more serious calls about our health...Should I be worried about not getting enough protein?

...and that’s not to mention all our current pandemic  concerns...Can I safely hang out with friends? What about using a public restroom?

With all that is happening these days, it seems we have more decisions to make than ever!

I personally get so worn down by being the decider, that I have developed a process to eliminate as much of the in-the-moment deciding as possible.

Eliminate decision fatigue and set yourself up for success

I call it pre-deciding, and I do it as often as I can to set myself up for success. It’s simple, and you can do it too: Identify your personal non-negotiables, and then pre-decide to set the conditions for inevitable success.

Eat good food

For example, I know if I want to feel my best, I need to eat a diet that is (mostly) plant-based, gluten-free, free from added sugar, and full of fresh fruits, veggies, whole grains and avocados :)

So...to make feeling my best more likely to happen, I make sure to keep these healthy foods on hand.

Do yoga

I also know that if I’m not regularly practicing yoga, I get stiff and tight in my body, and stressed and uptight in my mind as well.

So...I schedule regular yoga practice into my calendar.

Sit quietly

Another thing I know to be true about myself is that if I don’t allocate  time for meditation, I become unfocused and impatient.

So...I pre-decide to start most mornings with a few quiet minutes to myself.
