How are your new year’s resolutions coming along? Have you nailed them all? Stopped drinking a bottle of wine every night, lost 25 lbs and slayed the sugar dragon?
If you have, good for you!
Equally, if you’re struggling, then you’re not alone.
Me? I don’t make resolutions for the new year. I never really have and I’m not a big fan. I’ve always felt it sets me up for failure. But, there is a way to turn things around…
For example, one of the members in my yoga community, Cheryl, shared her take on new year's resolutions with us:
Every year she resolves to do the same three things:
Drink more water
Eat more veggies
Read more books
Cheryl intentionally makes these same resolutions every year—not because she tried and failed the year before—but because these three things are important to her, and by tagging them as her resolutions, in her own words, “It makes me more aware.”
It makes me more aware.
Isn’t that brilliant?
The other thing I love so much about Cheryl’s resolutions, is that she resolves to DO MORE of something, rather than to STOP doing something.
The most effective goals are stated in the positive.
New year’s resolutions
Dry January
Intention setting
Word for the year
I don’t think it matters what you call it. What matters is that you’re more aware of what you’d like MORE of in your life, rather than fixating on what you can’t have or can’t do.
Try it. Right now, take a moment, take a breath and make a list:
What are three things you’d like MORE of in 2023?
Let me know. I’d love to hear. And if you could use a little help making these happen, reach out. It’s what I do. :)
Happy New Year!
